The Discovery group of islands are the jewels of the British Columbia Coast. They are located midway along the east coast of Vancouver Island near Campbell River (see map). The larger islands include Quadra, Cortes, Read, Sonora, Stuart and the Rendezous. For over a century these islands have been a haven for those independent spirits searching for freedom, a sense of community, a cleaner environment, and unparalleled natural beauty. The scenery here is dramatic and varied, largely unspoiled by urban development. An aura of romance and a oneness with nature is everywhere. The sparkling waters are home to incredible marine life and in 1996 the HMCS Columbia was sunk off Quadra Island to become an exciting diving reef. The area is also world famous for its spectacular coastal cruising, whether by kayak or by yacht. Wildlife abounds, making hiking and beach combing enjoyable anytime of the year.
